THE HARRIS FAMILY LEGACY
In an industry increasingly shaped by big business, the Harris Family represent something rare — proud, hands-on hoteliers who believe hospitality starts with community.
Their story with Hotel Gosford began in 1998 with an unexpected phone call. At the time, they were selling another property in the Hunter Valley and weren’t actively looking. After more than two decades in the industry, there was hesitation. But one visit was all it took. They saw the history, the character and the potential to steward something that truly mattered to the Central Coast.
Since then, three major renovations have shaped the venue — the most significant completed in 2022, when the family set out to reimagine the local pub experience. Drawing inspiration from the hotel’s rich heritage and the glamour of the roaring twenties, the new chapter introduced dark timbers, touches of brass, ambient lighting and a timeless palette designed to honour the past while looking firmly to the future. Today, the next generation leads the business, with the Harris Family still closely involved. Recognised by the AHA as an icon of the Central Coast, Hotel Gosford remains what it has always been — built on family, history and genuine hospitality.
A TASTE IN TIME
When we began shaping Hotel Gosford’s 100-year celebration, we didn’t start with trends. We started with conversations.
We asked our parents, grandparents, long-time locals and team members the same question: What dishes take you straight back? What felt special? What felt like home?
The answers weren’t complicated. They were generous. Familiar. Honest.
From there, our kitchen set about reworking those memories — not recreating them exactly as they once were, but honouring their spirit. The result is a rotating Legacy Menu that cooks its way through the decades, bringing back flavours that defined family tables, date nights, celebrations and Sunday lunches.
This isn’t a history lesson. It’s a shared experience..
HOTEL GOSFORD THROUGH THE DECADES
From 1926 to 2026, Hotel Gosford has witnessed a century of change - in fashion, music, politics, sport and the way Australians gather.
The roaring twenties gave way to post-war resilience. The pub became a meeting place for shift workers, returned servicemen, families and first dates. Through the seventies and eighties it evolved with the times - louder, livelier, bigger nights and bigger personalities. The nineties brought a new era of hospitality. The 2020s brought reinvention.
Across every decade, one thing has remained constant: this building has always been a place to come together.
The 100-year celebration honours each chapter - through stories, menus, visuals and moments that invite our community to reflect on where we’ve been and where we’re heading next.
A century in. And we’re only just getting started.
